Re: Featured Review: The Expansion by Christoph Martin
Sex has been all through history categorized as a "sin". I think, the author should be generous and sincere as he put his pen in the narrating/consrtucting of the sex scene for these reasons: First, The very flee from sex(ing) is the very flee from the human nature: sex as life, and sex as a part a parcel of the human. It is in sex that people get into perfection ( I mean the body/body completion, hence the body/soul perfection and vice versa).
Second, rememeber M. Foucault? Then rememeber his "The history of Sexuality". Ina nutshel, Sexuality is a construct, a cultural consrtruct, roughly speaking. Sexualtiy sells. Take the example of the sex scene in The Expansion by C. Martin, and take me as a reader among readers, whose taste is to look for novel where sex is celebrated and not provided as a romantic block of words. I would buy and read a book ( and spend my time) that does not taboo sex. That raise my thinking from the body realm to the realm of words, of wonders. As a consequence, Martin would lose many readers due to the fact that his sex scene was a romantic scene. And this is something that Martin would not accept as he establishes his authorship upon "to write is to speak sincere your thoughts".
I believe that novels are creative cultural products that must in a way or another amplify the human.

The cliffhanger leaves you wondering what is coming next yes, but this book works very well as a standalone novel... Almost everything is resolved and it is just leading into a sequel.Emily Elizee wrote:Reading your review really heighten my interest in wanting to read this book. However it is unfortunate the books leaves the readers hanging in the end.
