Review of A Journey of the Heart
Lundyn loses her mother when she is a little girl, but was it an accident as they suspected? Lundyn lives with her grandma and grandpa at 23 years old, after graduating college and is trying to figure out what her next move is. Who is Lundyn's father? Many questions she did not think about until she starts to dig into her mother's past.
Sally Jo, Lundyn's best friend, has a spit fire personality and encourages Lundyn to dig into her mother's past and wants to help Lundyn figure out details she is missing. Adam, a mysterious man that keeps coming to grandma and grandpa's house, they say he is a "friend", but it seems there is something more going on, but Lundyn can't quite put her finger on it. Will it change Lundyn's next chapter of life if she finds more out about her past and her mother?
This book was one of those that I had an incredibly hard time putting it down! There were new characters getting introduced throughout and it had me guessing what their intentions were and if they were good or bad. The author did a great job and I appreciated that she wrote about the thoughts the characters were thinking and letting us learn their perspective on situations. This book had me constantly guessing and trying to figure out what was going to happen next, but with the twists and turns, I realized I had to give up. The author did an excellent job on connecting you with the characters and letting you dive into the mystery.
I want to acknowledge Sally Jo for being an amazing friend and asking the challenging questions and pushing Lundyn, but in a respectful manner. She knew when to stop with the questions reading Lundyn's moods and facial expressions, and she was exceptional support to Lundyn when she was finding out truths that were before unknown. She had the right touch and challenged Lundyn to think and nudge her in the direction to piece together the mystery.
I give this book a 5 out of 5-star rating because when I read a book, I typically don't want to read it again, but I definitely would with this one. I love the writing style of the author, I loved the bizarre characters and the trails she takes you down, and I love that you get to connect with Lundyn and appreciate her friendship with Sally Jo. There were great moments of humor, moments that tugged on your heart strings, and moments that made me appreciate the love of family. I highly recommend this book to anyone that appreciates a good mystery/thriller novel and I cannot wait to read more books by this author! This was a wonderfully written book that I want to read again and would recommend to my book reading friends.
