Clifford's War by J. Denison Reed follows Clifford Dee, a retired Army Officer, and his team of secret agents—Daniel, Bailey, and Sara—as they investigate a series of murders connected to a senator. The story delves into a complex web of crime, with each killing leading to more inquiries.

The team faces challenges in identifying the assassins and those who hired them, particularly as it becomes apparent that even those responsible for fighting crime may be involved. Through collaboration with the FBI, fire service, and a music producer, Clifford and his team work tirelessly to uncover the truth. The novel explores their invaluable roles in supporting one another and ultimately reveals whether they will succeed in their mission or fall victim to the same danger they seek to expose.

I found the story particularly captivating due to the intriguing quest to uncover Kelly's true identity and her involvement in the crime. One aspect that stood out to me was the clever twist involving Clifford's gift of a brooch to Sara. The moment when she initially mistook it for an expensive piece of jewellery, unaware of its true purpose as a secret microphone, added a touch of humour to the narrative. This clever setup allowed Sara to assume the role of a wealthy buyer, delving deeper into the investigation without Kelly's knowledge. However, the unexpected turn of events that followed proved to be truly devastating, adding a thrilling climax to the story. This combination of suspense, humour, and unexpected plot twists made the story highly enjoyable and engaging for me.

The reason I have no dislikes about this book is because it skillfully showcases the immense difficulty involved in investigating crimes, particularly high-profile murders of government officials. The author's portrayal of the challenges faced by Clifford and his team, their collaboration with Agent Sims, who survives being shot in the process, and the realistic depiction of the complexities of solving crimes, all contribute to my admiration for the book. It effectively captures the harsh realities of criminal investigations, keeping me thoroughly engaged without leaving room for any dislikes.

I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars due to the author's exceptional storytelling skills in portraying crime and investigations, highlighting the immense challenges involved. I highly recommend this book to all enthusiasts of novels and those intrigued by crime stories and secret agents. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.
