Clifford's War by J. Denison Reed begins with Clifford Dee, who is fatally sick, being rushed to the hospital by Sara. The doctors quickly diagnose him with a kidney stone and release him with a prescription for pain relievers. Later, Clifford's team is assigned to watch Senator Jason Reeves. However, Clifford is still ill and exhausted, so Sara volunteers to take his place. The senator's wife hires them to investigate if he is cheating on her, and their suspicions are confirmed. Unfortunately, along with this revelation, comes the senator's murder. Due to a glitch in their intercoms, Sara and Daniel are unable to determine the identity of the killer. However, Sara manages to read the killer's name, "Molly," from their lips. Despite this information, they lack any other means to identify the culprit. Soon, three lobbyists are killed in a car accident, but Clifford realizes it is not a mere coincidence. I won't reveal any further details to avoid spoilers, so you'll have to read the book yourself if you want to know more.

This book is an excellent read. It is captivating and enjoyable. I particularly appreciate the well-developed characters. Clifford and his team's determination to fight crime is admirable. Their investigative approach, thoroughly exploring every possible angle, ensures nothing is left to chance. For instance, following the lobbyists' deaths in the accident, Clifford suspects a connection to Reeves' assassination, and what they uncover is shockingly tied to a person they least expected.

I couldn't find anything to dislike, and in my opinion, there is no room for improvement. Everything is well executed. I can confidently award it 5 out of 5 stars. I only noticed one minor error with a misused hyphen, but overall, the book appears professionally edited to me. I highly recommend it to fans of detective and investigative novels.
