Review of Devil Among Us
A friend once told me that the problem the world is facing today is fueled by two things: politics and religion. I disagreed with him, but after reading the book Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick, I changed my belief.
Lara and Uri are special agents who work with the JTTF and Mossad, respectively. They have worked together on an operation in Chicago, where their relationship ended after they finished the operation. But the bombing of the Jewish church in New York is bringing them back to try to solve the mystery and puzzle behind the bombings. Several terrorist groups claimed to be behind this attack, but one is considered the main propagator. Their findings led them to more discoveries, including the rise of students posing as Jews who pose the threat of another attack and the involvement of the government, religious leaders, and influential oil-men in this terrorist attack. Read this book to know who the devils among us are—those whom we see as humans.
The author knows a lot about the Middle East, which contributes to the uniqueness of the book. Reading the book is like watching an action movie or being present where the event is happening. The author did well with the plot, settings, character development, and narration of the story. I like the truthfulness of the author's approach to writing the book. I have always wondered why some Muslims live peaceful lives while others are violent, and I am glad the author shed some light on this. It is very disheartening to read about how some people, for their gain, use religion to deceive the unsuspecting into killing their fellow humans in the hopes of receiving a reward for it in heaven. Indeed, we live among devils.
I enjoyed how the author made the chapters flow and gave complete details of everything that happened. From the bombings, use of different weapons, death, and everything else that might be called "graphic scenes," I believe this would allow the readers to understand what the act of terrorism does to us. I also like the author's inclusion of other characters in the story. The story didn't revolve around Lara and Uri alone; several others played wonderful roles in the rescue mission. I commend the author for a job well done.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. It is detailed and unravels a lot of things that happen behind the camera. I give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because there is no reason to deduct any stars from it.
I recommend this book to history and law students and aspiring crime detectives. Also, lovers of action-packed books will enjoy reading it too.
