𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘒𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘋𝘢 𝘝𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘪 by Belle Ami tells the story of Angela Renatus, a gifted young art historian who experiences strange visions while visiting an art gallery. Through these visions, and dreams that haunt her, Angela becomes aware of a missing work of art and the special connection she feels for the two subjects in the painting. The plot thickens when Angela meets Alex Caine, a professional art investigator, hired by a German collector to solve the riddle of a missing work of art.
Through Angela's visions, the author takes us to the middle ages where we are introduced to Giuliano Medici, his lover Fioretta and their deeply cherished friend Leonardo da Vinci. The story transitions seamlessly from Giuliano to Gerhard and Sophia in World War 11; and Angela and Alex's search for the missing work of art in the present day. Angela feels a deep level of connection with all four characters in dreams that leave her exhausted and traumatized. The vivid descriptions of her visions allow the reader to easily relate to each character. When Alex starts having visions of his own, the plot really thickens.
Were Angela and Alex lovers in past lives? The deep connection between them reveals an interesting theme of past life regression which makes for fascinating reading. Will her visions reveal the truth about the missing painting and can she save Alex from a past that threatens to destroy him in the present? As the passion between them flourishes, the missing painting continues to remain the focus of the book.
As a lover of all things Italian, I salivated at the clever imagery of my favorite dishes. The descriptions of beautiful architecture and romantic vistas were a delight for the senses. I thoroughly enjoyed the story which combines a mix of suspense, mystery, and unbridled passion and delves into the paranormal and past life regression.
There was absolutely nothing that I disliked about this book, although I became somewhat impatient for things to move along, they did eventually, in no uncertain terms! The story had me absorbed till the last page and I enjoyed the two main characters immensely. There were several errors that I found didn't detract from the overall appeal and I, therefore, rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It would appeal to those who enjoy most genres with an emphasis on romance, and to those who have an interest in the history of art.
