Review of Motivation 3
Motivation 3 by Swift unraveled the crime committed by 'niggas,' their self-righteous way of making money on the streets, and all the cruelty involved. It concentrated on Keyshawn Watson. He was seen as an African-American with a duty to make life better for his mother and sister, not minding the means it took to make money and the enemies accumulated along the way.
Everything was going well till Li Chan, an undercover FBI agent, fell in love with and got pregnant for him. She vowed to keep him out of the net of the cops. But her boss, Bender, carefully sniffed and started to see loopholes. Keyshawn was warned by T.A., his closest ally, always to remember that a pawn would always be a pawn and nothing more. Did Keyshawn take this advice and take care of Li?
The author's narrative style, coupled with the dialogues, featured a lot of cuss words. The characters were African- American, which explained why the cuss words were so. Since, in reality, African-Americans are known to cuss a lot. This, however, might not sit right with some readers who hate the use of cuss words.
In Swift's plot development, the love and loyalty between African-Americans showed forth, and it was enviable and admirable. Irrespective of the life they lived and the crimes they committed, they always had each other's back, and this was one lesson the reader would learn.
Motivation 3 also reveals a couple of other lessons, such as the responsibilities of a man to his family and how this pressure is a factor that pushes him into illegal activities. It also teaches the operation of the law and justice system and the detectives' ways of searching out answers to puzzling questions. Those scenarios make it a suspenseful and fantastic read.
There's also an inside knowledge of the lifestyle of African-Americans on the streets: their code names for things, the title given to individuals such as lil' homie and big homie, and why it is so. The writer makes this lifestyle so desirable that any reader without strong morals might want to live that kind of life.
Motivation 3 is a fantastic and exciting read. Due to its central theme of crime and law, I strongly recommend it to lovers of thrillers and aspiring detectives. Generally, the book will be a good read for anyone who loves suspense at its peak. There are a few grammatical errors, and nothing serious to dislike. However, considering the excessive use of cuss words, I rate it four out of five stars.
