Review of The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci
Some say love is overrated and that it fades with time. However, in the book, The Girl Who Knew Da Vinci by Belle Ami, time only made their love more passionate and fiery. When soul mates can find each other through the centuries regardless of the passage of time, then you know that this kind of love is eternal.
Alex Caine could not believe it when the beautiful woman pulled him into a smouldering kiss at an art gallery. She was drop-dead gorgeous, yes, but a stranger nonetheless, so it didn't make any sense. Alex was just blown away by the whole encounter. What made it weirder was that she seemed to be in a trance the entire time while sitting in front of a portrait. Alex was transfixed by the kiss and felt a yearning that he had never felt before. He wanted to know everything about this woman, but he could only stare as the kiss ended, and she got up and walked away. With his heart pounding and his body feeling feverish, he wondered if he was coming down with symptoms of post-traumatic syndrome disorder which he had been battling since his days in Afghanistan as a war veteran.
Who was this beautiful woman, and why did she have such an effect on him? Why was the portrait so important to her? Was this connected to the missing painting he had been hired to find? He was about to find out the answers to his questions in a very mysterious way.
I have been waiting to review this book for a long while, and it didn’t disappoint. It is a dream come true for romance literary genre lovers. Who wouldn’t yearn for a passionate love so fiery that its eternal flame burns and lies in wait through the centuries for the reincarnated soulmates to find themselves again? Who wouldn’t want to be loved so deeply and completely that everything and everyone else pales in comparison? It has something for thriller fans as well. There is the stone-cold antagonist who is bent on acquiring a long-buried treasure at all costs. There are also mysterious dreams and their dire warnings and interpretations. Everything in the book just blended as a perfect fit.
I also love the author’s depictions of Italy and its rich culture and history. I found myself eagerly researching all the places mentioned in the book. Rome, in particular, seems like an enchanting city. From the Spanish steps to St Peter’s Basilica and the mouthwatering cuisine, the author’s writing style had me mesmerised, wishing I was touring the Eternal City myself, soaking in the lovely sights and devouring the delicious food on offer.
I must admit I fell in love with the two main characters (pun intended!), Alex Caine and Angela Renatus, right away. Even a sceptic wouldn’t be able to resist the love these two characters have for each other. As well as the smouldering chemistry between them, it is clear that they really care about each other, and it shone through the pages of the book.
There’s nothing I dislike about this book. It is beautifully written and very entertaining. I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I didn’t find any errors, so it is exceptionally well-edited. It is an adult book with profanity and erotic scenes, so I wouldn’t recommend it to a younger/ sensitive audience. Mature lovers of the romance and thriller literary genre would find this book utterly delightful.
