Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick is the second book in his series that follows Lara and Uri. However, it can be read as a stand-alone book. It opens with the depiction of a suicide bombing in a Jewish Synagogue in New York City. The bombing killed almost everyone in the building, which was packed with hundreds of people who were there to worship. This devastating event brings FBI agents to investigate. They develop a task force that includes Lara and Uri. Lara is one of the FBI's best, and Uri is a Mossad agent. The initial investigation makes it seem as though the suicide bombers were Jewish members of the Synagogue. However, Lara and Uri go on a trip to Texas to follow a lead, and they start to believe it was Islamic extremists posing as Jews who committed the atrocity. That also indicates that it might not be a localized issue.

My favorite part of this book was the excellent characters. The novel was very plot-driven, as many thrillers are, but it still had well-developed characters. Uri and Lara were able to rekindle their relationship. It was interesting to see how the two interacted after being separated for an extended period of time. I feel as though it moved at a realistic pace and added a lighter touch to an otherwise heavy book. The two traveled all around to follow the trail of clues about the origin of the bombing and landed in several tricky spots where their training came in handy.

There was nothing I really disliked about this book. The plot moved along at a rapid pace, but it was not overwhelming. I feel as though the pacing matched the urgency of the plot. The pace did slow at times to allow the slight romance to develop.

I only noticed a few minor errors throughout the book. They did not detract from my reading experience. I believe that Devil Among Us was professionally edited.

I am happy to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. As I mentioned before, I have nothing bad to say about it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and seeing the plot unfold. There is some strong language and violence throughout the story, so readers should take that into consideration. Those who enjoy political thrillers that center around conflicts in the Middle East would enjoy this book immensely. The romance is not explicit and adds a nice layer that may also entice readers. If you are looking for an action-packed thriller, you should highly consider reading this Devil Among Us. It is an amazing book!
