Clint Kennedy made an appointment with a local lawyer in Florida, Jessie Coulter. Jessie’s office looks like a dump. A broken window pane is replaced with cardboard and duct tape, piles of files, shards of glass, and jellybeans scattered everywhere. On the cheap office chair was the body of Jessie Coulter. Clint has to make a decision. Should he walk out of the office before anyone comes in that office? Should he call the police to report the dead body? His mind ran through different possibilities of him being framed for the murder. What if Jessie’s secretary knows about the meeting? What if the police start poking around in his business?

Clint Kennedy is a money launderer for major South American drug lords. He admits that he is a criminal. His daily income of over four hundred thousand dollars a day gave him the means to start a school for Mayan kids. He thinks of himself as a good criminal. His explanation for this is that a good criminal owns his illegal living.

Money Faucet by Joe Calderwood is a second book in The Clint Kennedy crime series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. The author starts the book strongly, giving the readers a glimpse of what the book is about. The initial four pages of the book are written in a flow that made me think that the book will be filled with excitement and a fast-paced narrative. The writer has given details of how Clint was feeling at any particular major moment. The book is primarily written from Clint’s perspective and a third-person narrative telling us about other characters.

Even though the story has a good foundation, there are many negative aspects to the book. The book is not primarily divided into chapters. The writer has separated the events according to the day they take place on. There is no change in chapters when the narrative changes from the first person to the third person. There are no numbers on the pages. The whole book is a collection of full-length pages, with no page breaks indicating a new day. The author mentions a facility where an elderly is moved, as Seaside Gardens. This name is used three times in the book. But suddenly, the facility’s name is changed to Sunset Gardens for the rest of the twenty occurrences. A lot of information about nearly all the characters is given. Even the characters that are not essential to the story have a backstory. However, one character which is very essential to the plot is not well described. Ninety percent of the story takes place before the crime. The story is only fast-paced and thrilling in the initial pages and near to the end.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. There were more negative aspects to the book than positive ones. The hold of the excitement of reading a crime thriller is not continued after the initial four pages.

I recommend this book to adult and mature readers who don’t mind slow-paced crime thrillers. The book is extremely well-edited. I did not find any grammatical or spelling errors.

Clint is one interesting criminal. I enjoy good crime thrillers, but I doubt I have the patience to get through a slow-paced one. Thanks for your detailed review, though.
