The Big Dilemma by Jimmy Corinis is a crime thriller whose detective work is driven by love. Ten years ago, Plato Cartessis received a suspended sentence for the murder of Rosa, his boss. He claimed that he killed her in self-defense and defense of Euginia Persides (Gina). However, Gina could not live with the fact that she had witnessed her lover - Cartessis - kill a woman. This broke Cartessis' heart and made him leave Greek for London, where he expected to spend the rest of his life. However, he received a distress call from Alkis Voudouris, who informed Cartessis that Gina is desperately looking for him. Unfortunately, Gina is murdered before Cartessis travels back to Greece. At her funeral, Cartessis vows to pay Gina's murderer with the same coin.

This intricate novel is told from the first-person point of view, with vivid descriptions that enhance a reader's ability to form mental pictures of various scenes. Corinis' excellent use of simple language in his narration not only made this an easy read but also made it easy to relate with. I was able to empathize with Cartessis' incessant need to avenge his former lover's death, thanks to the author's descriptions of the emotional torture that Cartessis had suffered.

I also commend the use of flashbacks in the plot development of this book. For a first-time reader of this second installment, it was prudent for the author to provide a background description of what may have happened in the events that preceded the writing of this book. I, therefore, appreciated the fact that the preceding events were well-presented without detracting me from my enjoyment of this book.

What I loved most about this book is its steady plot development. Corinis advanced his story at a smooth pace that gave enough time for each section of the plot to develop autonomously without appearing rushed or deliberately slow. I owe this to the creative production of this book, where the author used some stylistic devices like a story within a story, dialogue, rhetorical questions, among others.

I recommend this book to lovers of crime thrillers and romance genres as well. Unfortunately, this book contains more than ten grammatical errors, which is what I did not like about it. The errors are so glaring that they affected my enjoyment of this book. I, therefore, believe that it was not professionally edited. The poor editing is what has informed my rating of three out of four stars for this book.

Gina's death looks like it sparked an unstoppable train of revenge (which I am assuming is one of the themes of this book). Thanks for the review!

That's true; the inspiration behind the plot if this book is vengeance. Nice observation right there and thanks for the comment.

Thanks for your fascinating review. It looks like Plato has quite a rough life there. He murders his boss to protect his girlfriend, yet she would break his heart. I wonder if Gina's death has something to do with Plato's previous case.
