What a tremendous thriller with a storyline full of cliffhangers and twists, right to the end.

A young boy who was meant to die whilst his family was being murdered has somehow survived the brutal attack. His injuries have left him with a profound disability but he is is compensated by a unique gift: psychometry. This means he can trace an object’s history by simply touching it.

Alongside the story of young Matthew, the reader is taken in the midst of organised crime, gangsters, espionage, a mysterious heist on a ship in order to retrieve some armament, the construction of an ultra modern cruise ship and the development of a new baseball stadium. A complex plot with many characters who, at first sight, do not seem to have anything to link them to each other.

The charismatic investigators are incredibly funny, charming, likeable. They are working very hard to solve two cases simultaneously, the highjacking of a ship and its crew, as well as the murder of the commissioner of the town. Will their investigation lead them to Matthew and his special powers?

A great plot, a lot of atmosphere and mystery, it is easy to warm to the main characters. I liked how it all came together, brought us back to Matthew’s parents’ murder and how a simple game of baseball brought the protagonists together in a most unexpected way.

The final twist was completely unexpected! When you thought you were all done with the drama and cliffhangers, the authors throws in the most dramatic conclusion! A real page turner, it will leave you engaged right to its conclusion!!

I will give this book a 4/4 even if I did have to persevere a little at the beginning to become completely engrossed in the story.
