Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick is the second book in the Lara and Uri series. The oldest Orthodox synagogue in Brooklyn is bombed by three of its members wearing body bombs. The Bar-lev family came to the United States about four years prior and were prominent members of the community. Their son, Yehudi, had just celebrated his bar mitzvah. Rabbi Goldstein of the synagogue is shocked to learn of their involvement but verifies that the three bombs came from the chairs where Mr. Bar-lev, his wife, and son sat. He does not understand how they could be responsible for killing so many of his congregation. Lara searches their home looking for answers and discovers Arabian silk scarves, a bible, prayer rugs, and fraudulent north Israel passports. Who were these people?

It is discovered that students are coming to universities in the United States using fake passports from northern Israel. Within a short period of time after their arrival, they congregate at West Texas Poly in Waco, Texas. Lara and Uri go to Waco to investigate. Leonard Depew, Founder and Director of Mount Zion at West Texas Poly, is building a visitors center for Zionist Christians in the Holy Land in Israel. Lara and Uri discover that these students are planning on helping to build the center only to bomb it to kill Jews and Americans. Lara and Uri head to the Middle East and engage in the war against terrorism, and to find out why Jews are killing Jews.

Many questions arise as to why these Orthodox Jews are killing other Jews and who is helping them. If America stops aiding Isreal because they are killing themselves will the American oil tycoons in Texas benefit? Are they a part of this plot? Since these Jews are using fake passports, are they really who they say they are? Is this another plot by Arabia or Iran to destroy Israel? Is the bombing of the Orthodox synagogue connected to the bombing in the Holy Land? Answering these questions provides a lot of intrigue and mystery to the story.

I liked this book because it is fast-paced and full of action. There is suspense from one chapter to the next as Lara and Uri unravel the riddle of what is actually happening and why. There was nothing I disliked about the book. The graphic scenes involving the murders are minimal.

I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in Middle East conflicts. There is no erotic sexual content and minimal minor profanity. The author provides a lot of history on the Middle East wars and the cultures of Israel,Iran, Arabia, Egypt, and Syria.

I believe this well-written book was professionally edited as I only found two typographical errors toward the end of the book. This book deserves 4 out of 4 stars.
