An Imperfect Crime is a story about two struggling writers who have been trying hard to get their books published. Peter Simpson and Allister Brown along with Brown’s girlfriend Sarah Parker have been ruminating over their failures and building on a new strategy. They eventually come in with a very bold idea.

Peter Simpson decides to write a murder mystery named ‘The Perfect Crime’. In order to gain popularity for the book, they plan to follow all the details written in the book and turn it to a real crime scene. They fake the murder of Allister Brown by sending him in to a hideout. They plan to sensationalize the case, and then claim that the idea was borrowed from the book. They hope that the book will make waves and grab peoples’ eyeballs.

The author, Fred G. Baker has written a very well-crafted murder mystery. The book is a page-turner. The story is indeed very unique and novel. The main characters have a strong role and leave an impression on the readers. Lori Sanchez is a courageous and fearless detective. Her encounter with the drug peddlers in the story, and the way she deals with it,using her swift and suave actions are praiseworthy. The readers can surely feel the adrenaline rush in while going through that action-packed scene!

The other most important character is the one played by Father Montero. His perseverance and equanimity in all circumstances are commendable. I liked the part where Father Montero repents about shooting one of the miscreants in an encounter to save Sanchez. It leads him to think whether that killing was justified since he is a priest. His sincerity and dedication toward his vocation are reflected in this episode.

The story is set up in Arizona, and it talks about the important cities like Scottsdale, Phoenix, etc. The Mexican cities and El Paso are also a part of the story. The author has a good knowledge about Mexico, the people, and the lifestyle over there. The author describes it beautifully. The content of the book is well-written and structured. The events in the story are connected logically. It is a baffling mystery and leaves the readers guessing until the end! I would recommend it to readers who are interested in reading action-thrillers and fast-paced books. I personally enjoyed reading the book and did not find any errors in it. I would give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
