Personally, I believe that any subject can make an interesting story. Unfortunately, not all writers can do such a feat. Like the process behind a good bottle of champagne, it takes experience and skill to transform a once trivial thing into a centerpiece of a thrilling narrative. However, I found a book that did just that.

This is Michael Amon’s The Champagne Tales. This book is not only a piece of literature, it is an experience, similar to trying and tasting champagne. The author concocted a collection of tales, all different and yet equally evocative. I never taught that a bottle of champagne could be an interesting tool to tell a story.

This book takes you on an emotional ride through the various lives and dilemmas of its characters. What I liked most about it is that each story is vividly descriptive, making it easier to see the scenes play out in your mind’s eye. Once you read this book, it’s quite difficult to put it down as each tale becomes more intriguing than the next. I often found myself in awe, admiring the author’s ability to incorporate and connect each tale with the book’s subject despite the individual uniqueness of the stories themselves.

Another aspect that I love about this book is its depiction of women. Each story was able to present the reality of being a woman in different areas of life. Furthermore, many of the stories highlight other issues present in society, allowing the readers to resonate with each tale.

Admittedly, there are stories that contain profanity, the first instance of which is in The Review. However, if you are someone who is uncomfortable with such, there are also stories that don’t make use of vulgar words. Personally, I find the use of profane terms enjoyable as it helps establish the characters in the story.

There are also erotic descriptions in some of the stories, though I wouldn’t consider them as salacious as one might think. On a scale of 0-5, these scenes fall into the range of 1 or 2. These erotic descriptions are written in a way that won’t make you uncomfortable while reading it. Furthermore, these scenes are also with intent and is essential to distinguish the message hidden in each tale.

Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It’s difficult to find a fault that can justify rating it any less. This book truly is an exceptional read. The stories are nicely paced and well-written as well as exceptionally edited. I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a heart for a good book. Undoubtedly, this book will take you for a ride.
