Review by jenniela2010 -- Snow Country Lane by Sarah Vail
Snow Country Lane by Sarah Vail is the second book of a mystery/suspense series. Tim McAndrews, a top lawyer from Seattle has recently married Dani, the love of his life. After a self-defence shooting has Tim questioning his own career, Tim, Dani and their friends decide to take a ski vacation at Schweitzer Mountain in Idaho. After a busy day in the beautiful winter wonderland, a kidnapping happens in broad daylight right in front of them at the ski lodge. A hot pursuit ensues. Will they find the kidnapped child? Will the kidnapper be caught? The plot thickens as Tim discovers this is not an isolated event.
This book had me hooked from the first page. The chapters are short which makes it easier to read. The book has very little profanity, however if you have issues with profanity, you might want to skip a sentence or two. If you like hot and steamy romance novels, this isn’t the book for you as the romance is quite mild. Although it’s a mystery/suspense novel, the events in this book feel very real. The story deals with mature subject matter. The author has done her research into the heavy topic of child trafficking. She states in the back of the book that the FBI has saved 180 children from a child trafficking ring in 2018 before she started to write this book, and by the time she finished writing this book, the FBI saved another 200 children from a child trafficking ring, some of which were still in diapers.
What I liked most about this book is the intriguing plotline and interesting characters. Each character is unique and I could imagine the story as if watching it play out in a movie. It held my attention from page one and continued to the end. The short chapters made it easier for me to read whenever I had a few minutes. The book has a nice flow to it, it does not jump back and forth and isn’t all over the place.
There is nothing I dislike about this book, however the 4 blank pages throughout the book confused me. They don’t serve any particular purpose. I look forward to more books from this author.
I believe this book is professionally edited, as it only has minor typos and some blank pages. I give this book a 4 out of 4 stars because it captured my attention from the first page, which doesn’t happen often. I hope that there will be more books in this series.
