[Following is a volunteer review of "Perfect Fairways... Hidden Lies" by Robert Marier.]
[rbc=4]id378132-125[/rbc]Crime books about detectives and murders, are not lacking in the vast world of literature, but anyone who knows a bit about this kind of book knows that a large majority of them ae uninteresting, predictable and often a copy of previous ones. Neverthless, one book that definitely escapes this pattern is Perfect Fairways... Hidden Lies: Murder, Suspense and Golf, which offers us a magnificent story, full of mystery and excitement up to the last page.

In this book, Robert E. Marier introduces us to some cops, four murders, a serial killer, and an interesting unsolved mystery. It all starts when three women are found dead at different places and times, by different people, with only one thing in common, which is the weird and uncommon way they were killed. Feeling desperate after finding a fourth victim who also choked with two golf balls in her throat, the police hires Joe Hancock and Paul Clark, two FBI agents, to solve the case and catch the serial killer.

What is brilliant about this book are the characters created by Robert E. Marier. Normally, in these kinds of books, the detective is always that perfect guy who does nothing wrong, while the "villain" is always an unscrupulous psychopath. In contrast, this story shows us two detectives who are not saints, who make a lot of mistakes, and are far from perfect, as well as a killer with some personality and a point of view.

What struck me most about this book and kept my enthusiasm throughout these 176 pages of pure pleasure was its division into two different parts. It starts with the search for the killer, but becomes even more exciting when his identity is discovered and a manhunt begins.

I couldn't find anything I didn't like about the book, from its absorbing writing to its plot twists. Besides that, this story addresses a theme that should be talked about, abuse and violence, making it more realistic and shocking to the reader.

Concluding, all these factors lead to my 4 out of 4 star rating for Perfect Fairways... Hidden Lies: Murder Suspense and Golf, which I highly recommend to all golf lovers, mystery readers and Silence of the Lambs fans, who will certainly love this novel.
