Review by klbradley -- Murdered by James Schannep
The storyline commences with the reader on vacation in Brazil with friends. What is assumed to be a constant party and exciting time for sight-seeing quickly turns into mayhem as the reader stumbles upon what appears to be a murder scene- which is where the first interactive selection comes into play. Having come face to face with the probable murderer, the first option given to the reader is to pick up a gun or not. From there, the interactive choices made by the reader change the way the story plays out, enabling the reader to be the one in charge of what course the story takes.
Murdered was my first encounter with an interactive book of this type. I had no idea what to expect when I began, however, I was promptly interested in how my choices would play out in a scenario like this. Due to my avoid-conflict-at-all-cost temperament, I was a bit unsatisfied with my choices, as the story ended quickly and I wasn't able to find out much about what happened with the actual murder. Deciding to have another go and allow myself to choose some more rather precarious alternatives, I was pleased with a more extensive intertwinement in the story.
The editing and organization of the story were phenomenal and something I would highly recommend to any reader who enjoys a crime/mystery/thriller novel. With over 50 potential conclusions, I will definitely go through the story again to see what other outcomes I can come up with. I've always been amazed at how two people can read the exact same story and come away with a different perspective, yet Murdered offers something uniquely new that I had never heard of before. The only downside that I found while reading Murdered was how abruptly the story ended on my first try with the interactive reading, although that prompt ending was entirely due to the selections I made.
I cannot praise this story enough, and will gladly be recommending it to anyone who fancies mystery novels. The flow of the storyline was perfectly played out on the Kindle edition that I obtained and the transition between chapters was seamless. I'm pleased to rate Murdered4 out of 4 stars. I'm already looking forward to reading some of the other interactive publications by the author to see if they play out as well.
