[Following is a volunteer review of "Perfect Fairways... Hidden Lies" by Robert Marier.]
[rbc=4]id378132-125[/rbc]Perfect Fairways… Hidden Lies is a short mystery novel set in the golf world around the country. It is suspenseful and fast-paced, with good imagery and explanations of golf for readers that have never played the sport. The author’s use of imagery and attention to detail give the reader a good image of what the characters are seeing. There are also added illustrations that help readers visualize certain things, like what a specific airplane looks like, for example.

It is filled with plot twists and different characters in every chapter, which makes it a little difficult to follow all the way through if not read all in one sitting. I was unable to put the book down until finished as the story was very good.

While reading, the book was similar to how a crime-show drama would play out. It starts off with a horrible crime sequence and follows different detectives in different states collecting clues about the crimes. It is eventually found that the crimes have similarities, and higher authorities get involved. From there, different clues come to light from different parts of the country and a manhunt is underway. The use of the different characters helps keep the story moving forward and also gives a little insight of how our criminal justice system departments work together to solve crimes in a timely fashion. Since the story is set from the west to the east coast, bringing in law enforcement from both sides makes sense.

There were parts of the book that seemed to be strung together in order to make the pace of reading quicker that did not quite make sense. There is a lot of jumping back and forth between characters and point of view that could be confusing for some readers, but gave the novel a television show-like feel. I found in chapters towards the end of the book that every few paragraphs a new person would take over the point of view, and then it would jump back to the other character’s a couple of paragraphs after that.

Overall, I give Perfect Fairways… Hidden Lies by Robert E. Marier 4 out of 4 stars. It was well written, kept the pages turning until the end, and was edited exceptionally well. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading quick mysteries with good imagery, even if there is no background knowledge in golf or crime solving.
