[rbc=4]id166117-125[/rbc]What an immensely enjoyable book! I was taken from page one. We encounter Max Burns as a teenager who is just losing his parents and his friend Godfredo Roco, who is in a destructive relationship with his father. These two friends slowly lose track of each other through the years. Eventually Godfredo and Max are reunited when the former invites the latter to work with he and his father on a bid to widen the Panama Canal. This partnership brings up the past between the two friends. Will the bid for the canal and the subsequent work go smoothly? Will their friendship surpass the shadows of the past? Or will they break the chain?

The Expansion by Christoph Martin captures your attention from the moment you open the book until its neatly tied conclusion. Filled with the excitement of whether they are going to secure the bid, add intrigue, espionage, murder, behind closed-door deals and some surprising twists and turns, you won't want to set this one down. I kept finding myself saying,"Oh, I am already on chapter such and such...!" I flew through the pages of this book with ease.

I can honestly say this book was well written and contained enough of an outline of the history of the Panama Canal to make the story plausible but never overwhelming with complicated facts. I have given this book four out of four stars. It was a pleasure to spend time inside the pages of this book.

I didn't find any context or editorial errors. My hats off to the writer and the editing team. I will also say there wasn't a single thing that I did not enjoy. The book was exceptionally written with great dialogue and character development. I felt like you got to know the characters and there was the right balance between them and the story and the reader. Very much like an excellent knife, sharp and balanced in your hand perfectly.

I recommend this book to all readers, male and female alike, this book contains something for every reader. There were no sexual scenes that would put some people off, though there was some light banter with sexual innuendos. If you like casual reading with little surprises interspersed in the pages, then you'll love reading The Expansion.
