The Fly Past Murders by Keith Pulver is a compelling crime thriller set against the backdrop of post-war vengeance. The story unfolds with the murder of an RAF Red Arrows pilot on the day of a grand flypast over Buckingham Palace. This murder uncovers a sinister plot as a terrorist pilot plans a deadly attack using sarin gas. The narrative intricately weaves the lives of antagonists seeking revenge for their ancestors who perished many decades ago. As tension mounts, DCI Chrissy Acton and her team, alongside Hannah Cozin, embark on a race against time across former enemy countries. Tradition clashes with innovation as secrets unravel, leading to a gripping pursuit of justice and truth. Will they thwart the attack before disaster strikes?

What stands out most about this book is its enjoyable reading. There is no ordinary suspense here, with the reader discovering the villain only at the end. The script is straightforward, and the reader understands the revenge story from the beginning. Even so, the attack is so well planned (with the antagonists being cold and ruthless psychopaths) that the reader wonders if they won't achieve their goal. This approach is more enjoyable than tiring and excessive suspense for a specific audience that will only dissipate in the last pages.

There is nothing negative to mention here. The plot is cohesive and coherent and does not have loose ends. The book is also very well edited, and I found only two minor grammatical errors. Perhaps the author could have developed more of the psychological aspect or what led the terrorists to build so much hatred, but maybe that would affect the fun aspect of reading, and that could be counterproductive.

Overall, The Fly Past Murders is a fascinating book that will please readers who enjoy suspense and action. Since the book has no relevant flaws, I gave it the highest rating: 5 out of 5 stars. It was a delightful and entertaining read, and after finishing it, I wanted to reread it.

I recommend this book to thriller lovers who are interested in understanding the minds of antagonists who want to commit terrorist acts. In any case, the book should only be read by adults. It contains several descriptions of explicit sex and a high number of profane words. This approach may bother even the most puritanical adults, but it will not diminish the quality of the work since the book is pure gold.

The Fly Past Murders seems like a captivating crime thriller, especially with its mix of post-war vengeance and a well-crafted, high-stakes plot. The idea of the antagonists being cold, calculating psychopaths gives the book a chilling edge, and I like how the mystery of the villain is held off until the end. I’m curious about the psychological depth of the terrorists, though the review mentions this might be downplayed for pacing. Despite some mature content, it sounds like a thrilling read, and I’d definitely consider reading it to experience the suspense and action for myself.

A thriller in which a murder mystery has a number of ramifications with a terrorist plot that includes an important psychological element that adds another layer of depth. Thank you for your great review!
