Kalayla and Lena would both be my favorite characters. Together they seem so fun to be around. If I did hang out with those two, I'd be rofl at how they interact with one another.

I enjoyed Lena's character the most. She had some demons to deal with and instead of being a crabby old lady forever she let Kalayla into her heart and decided to face those head on. I think because of Lena's determination to help Kalayla, Kalayla ended up being a more mature kid. I'm happy Lena found joy and a real beautiful family in the end.

I think I’m on board with most of the others in this forum. It’s a really close call between Lena and Kalayla. They both experienced so much growth throughout the book and were both inspiring to me.

Definitely Kalayla. She was full of life and positivity despite the things she went through. And her reactions when faced with disappointments are the usual reactions anyone can give. But her actions despite those disappointments in protecting her mother are exemplary.

Lena!
I can't stress enough how amazing her character was. Especially if you look at how Maureen let her life fall apart after Jamal's death. Lena had been that too and seeing how she grew strong after that was really inspiring. It made me wonder that maybe Maureen could become as strong, or maybe more, someday in the future too.

I think I like JJ. At first, I thought he had become someone like his father, given how much he admired Joey. I regarded his beating Mark as bullying, but at the end of the book, I realized that I was wrong. JJ was doing whatever he could to protect Mark, simply because "he is my brother."

My favourite character is Lena. This is because she is wise and ready to help Maureen and Kalayla. I also loved that she accepted her mistake when she realised that she had misjudged he children.

It's hard to find just one character that I enjoyed the most. But I must mention Rico; I was impressed about the combination between his mature thinking and his emotional intelligence. The way he treats children and teenagers should be taught in schools.

Lena is my favorite in this book. Others might say she was too nosy, but the truth is, without her interference, there wouldn't be a book to write.

Hard to choose between Kalayla and Lena. Both were very inspiring characters. They both developed a lot throughout the book.

Kalayla is definitely my favorite character in the book. I love her personality and how mature and independent she is. She's the kind of person who always says what's on her mind and goes for what she wants.

First off, I have to say that I loved all the main characters. Kalayla had me smiling and shaking my head throughout, and Lena offered both wisdom and realism. However, I feel it was Maureen who I connected with the most. While I have not had her experience (thankfully), there is still a certain brashness underlying her frail exterior that I can relate to. It was only after her family kicked her out and her life started to spiral after Jamal died that she locked herself in a cocoon. She apologized for the littlest things and rambled on lengthy tangents because she was unsure of herself, but she had so much courage and determination to keep pushing through after things got really hard. That is something I admire very much. I was so happy to see Maureen flourish and break out of her shell towards the end of the story. Each of the characters had a beautiful ending, but I was very proud of Maureen especially for all the progress she made.

I like Lena. I mostly sympathized with her throughout the story, but I'm so glad she got closure and her happy ending with Mattwo. She deserved to have that ages ago.

A very unlikely favorite character for me was Maureen. She is not depicted as a perfect mother who walks on water, which is precisely why I liked her. She has her flaws and that makes her seem very authentic. Being such a young widow and being able to pick herself up and raise a smart and strong daughter was amazing. I loved and respected her quiet strength and dignity.
