The Watchmaker's Doctor, a first book in the erase and rewind novella. A collection for new adult science fiction created by G.M.T. Schuilling. The search for a new beginning, will you travel through time?
Anaya, a doctor with bipolar 2 disorder. Yes! A thirty-five-year-old disillusioned doctor with the disorder. Seems impossible, right? Bipolar 2 disorder means that the mood elevation never reaches full-blown mania. Having medication and therapy may reduce the risk of hypomania or depression. They say people with this kind of disorder typically live a normal life. Her first patient in St. Jude's Retirement Home, is Greg. A seventy-two years old watchmaker. A special bond formed in a doctor-patient relationship. Greg once said to Anaya that even though she is his doctor, she is not the right physician for her own self. Funny, but I find it amusing when a patient is way above his doctor. It feels that your degree doesn't matter as long as you're an experienced one.
The effort in studying time, its history and movement, the watchmaker achieved something great - to rewind time. The chance to go back and change to make up for his mistakes in the past. He had surely done the right thing and ready to leave this world with no regrets. Now that he decided to pass that chance to someone else, he gave his watch to his doctor. Anaya is in a state of shock to know about time travel. As expected by Greg, he said, don't ask why I choose you? Rather, what's yours? Think about your biggest regret and erase it. It's a great opportunity to have a second chance in life. Since Anaya is a doctor and has a job, does she needs it? Will she grab the chance to rewind and erase something in her past? Will she be able to sacrifice her happiness over some part of her past? Will she be happy to take the chance or get mad at him?
Though this story is a sci-fi, the author gives me the thrill to proceed and can't stop reading. Also, I can't wait to read the second book. You will never get bored and I feel like I'm back in my teens, full of life. Hurry! You might feel the same way as I am. Though you might ask yourself about regrets and wish to have the watch. Will you or will you not change your present? Do you think it's for the best to time travel? In reality, if you are capable and contented in this present life even if you had regrets, I don't think you will go back to the past. What for?
I recommend this book for teens to adults and/or young at hearts. Teens may learn to consider their action so they will not regret anything in life. For them to appreciate the life they have and do something good or make it right if they have gone on a wrong path. Due to occasional typos, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. So far the story is great and the author knows how to make his readers feel it. Hopefully, The Watch Seeker book two will surpass book 1.
