Yeah, I did truly enjoy the twists too.Amylynn0318 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2018, 12:46 Love the idea of taking something that we have heard many of times, like these old tales and putting a new twist on it. Makes for a more fun and intriguing read.

There are actually quite a few books out there that twist fairytales these days. But this one definitely will stand out in my mind too.

Haha. I hear you. I had my moments deciding if I really liked the book or not. Then, I finally came to the conclusion that I really did like it, despite the lack of a copy edit.

Haha, I know! Who could have thought that performing DNA testing could be the most accurate way to determine the owner of the shoe?Dahmy 10 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2018, 06:28 I think it's a great venture Grossan has endeavored into. I admire stories that have been given a major twist, and to see that these stories were made more modern and highly logical - imagine testing Cinderella's shoes for DNA - is indeed applaudable. I only hope it was stressed out in the book that it's not for children.
Thanks for this superb information!!

Wow! It's so good to read about your dissertation. Lovely topic to specialize in as well. You'd make a lovely chat partner for sure, as I love analyses of fairy tales and other series (particularly of the fantasy genre) myself.Vscholz wrote: ↑05 Aug 2018, 14:38 Fairy tale retellings are a specialty of mine, and I am always looking for ones to read. My dissertation concentrated on the posthuman aspects of specific series, but I am not (entirely) married to that, especially when reading for fun.
I am adding this book to my TBR list immediately!

It truly is interesting. Something we can finish reading in a day - if we have the time.

It certainly is great to read fairy tales with a twist.rainydaysc64 wrote: ↑31 Aug 2018, 23:19 Definitely sounds like my type of read. Though I don't know whether all the errors in the book will bother me or not. But it's always fun to read fairy tales told differently.
