June and Cherrie's lives are about to change forever, and not just because their high school experience is about to be over. The pair of best friends quickly learn that supernatural creatures are real after they nearly die in the woods from being chased by a werewolf. Even more terrifying, June learns that she, too, is a werewolf and has connections to long-buried secrets. June and Cherrie team up with newfound friends, who are also possible love connections, to help June learn who she is and why so many monsters are out to get her. Her epic story can be found within the pages of Lycan Lineage by Dorianne Ashe.

Ashe's writing style drew my attention from the first page. The opening paragraph, a description of the high school, immediately took me back to my teenage years as I watched June and Cherrie deal with the whirlwind of emotions that come with the end of high school. The vivid descriptions made the action sequences easy to picture as well. I appreciated the balance between the plot moving forward and the characters having the space to process everything happening to them. As June began to process that she was a werewolf, she had so many new feelings, such as being "moon drunk."

However, there were some plot points that felt too convenient. For example, when researching werewolves, June comes across a mysterious website that seems to have all the answers she is seeking. The existence of this website felt more like a needed plot device than a genuine thing that would have existed. It seems odd that someone in their society would want that information accessible to just anyone with an internet connection when the werewolves try to blend into human society as much as possible.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am taking one star off due to the overly convenient solutions the characters come across. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The book does have a more YA vibe because of the teenage protagonists, but it does contain some strong language. I think the book would be suitable for those who are older than sixteen. For fans of supernatural creatures, fantasy, and slow-burn romance, Lycan Lineage is an exciting start to a promising series!
