Ever wondered what it would be like to know the exact date of your death marked on your forehead? This was a reality for the people of the Andaman Islands, whose story we get to read about in LoveVortex and the Drakor's Curse by Pekka Harju-Autti.

Captain Julius Hawthorne returns after a long day repairing ships at the harbor. He is frustrated because the sea has refused to come alive on his canvas. That evening a royal messenger delivers a message that requires him to sail to the Bay of Bengal by November, gather spices from the Andaman Islands, and strengthen Britain's trade routes. His 14-year-old son, Peter, is joining him on this journey. The journey is filled with challenges, but after some months, they arrive at their destination. They are welcomed by the village's local leader, Aarav, who explains that the village oracle, Nalini, had foretold their arrival. Julius notices that everyone has a tattoo of their own death on their forehead, a curse that was placed by the ancient dragon Drakor. Julius was to investigate the curse and a possible solution, which leaves me wondering if Julius's visit will bring change for the islanders.

LoveVortex and the Drakor's Curse follows the story of the islanders, their curse, and Julius's visit to the Andaman Islands. I appreciate the author's creativity in putting this story together. My favorite character is Julius, and I was generally touched by his love for Anaya. Characters like Lani, Nalini, Aarav, Makiu, and others stand out to me, and the author makes them distinct in their personalities. The idea of the short-lived and long-lived on the Andaman Islands is really unique. It was really emotional learning about the difficult experiences captains have at sea, which include loss, fear, and many others. While reading, I get to understand that facing death is part of life's beauty. The images added to the book help me picture some of the characters, and it was a nice experience. One quote from the book that stands out to me is that "life is most beautiful when you don't know what will happen next."

I have nothing to dislike in this book, as the storyline is delivered properly. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars, and I encountered some minor errors while reading, which proves it was professionally edited. I would recommend this book to individuals who enjoy books with historical adventures with a touch of fantasy.
