Sounds like it could have been a good book, but it just wasn't. I can't stand ampersands in professional writing! Unrealistic conversations are another big peeve of mine. Thanks for the honesty review!

First, great use of the word maladroit.

Next, it is good to know that this is not a book I would enjoy. It sounds like the author had a great story but suffered from some poor language skills. It’s a shame that he didn’t pursue some additional editing support.

The summary sounds amazing, sadly so many authors don't edit enough or don't listen to their editors. I'm sad to see such a great idea go to waste because of lack of editing, but great review!
