Yes, the characters are in different settings; different scenes would of course be very apparent in a film. The writer does make good use of the multiple perspectives in this book though. I agree with you! Science Fiction almost always sounds interesting to me because the premises are so unique, but it's sad that it didn't follow through in the execution as well as it could have.
