This reminds me quite a bit of the story collection New Fangled Fairy Tales, which puts farce-like twists on classic German and French fairy tales. However, this is the first I've heard of this style being carried throughout an entire novel, and I'm excited to see how well it works for myself! Thank you for the thorough and thoughtful review.

This sounds like a lot of fun! I've loved farcical fantasy by Terry Pratchett and Robert Rankin and others; hope this one is as good!

Wow! Your review is heartfelt and am glad you enjoyed the book. You have tempted me to try it though I have never indulged in this type of genre. The character Thoral Mighty and Brad, his talking, air-breathing fish makes for an epic story. From magic swords to power pudding, am intrigued.

For some reason while I was reading your review, I thought of the show The Son of Zorn . This is probably why I might watch the book as a tv show or movie, but definitely not a book I'd read. I started the sample but just couldn't keep reading! Nice review, though.

Well-written review. This book just isn't my particular cup of tea. I can see that someone that is really into fantasy would enjoy this book, however.

Your review is interesting, and while it gave a lot of good reasons to give the book a read, I have way too much on my plate. I like the comedy aspect though. Thanks for the review!

Sounds like unique book. After reading the first couple pages I thought this could make a good joke. “A fish walks into a bar...”

Well, the passage I read did have some humorous moments - assassins assassinating each other (ala Canterbury Tales on speed), but the images of talking koi and heroes with accents...but not really...just reminds me of what Twain was able to do, but this author was unable to do - create voice! Honestly, I was lost at walking/talking koi fish, but I could go along with the glowing swords and powerful sorcerers - I just lost patience with the trite allusions to overused motifs.

As a kid, I hated fantasy books. Ironically, as I grew up I started reading a lot of fantasy and realized that I should've known better. I don't think I have read anything belonging to farce. This sounds like a good book to start with. Thanks for your review. It was great! :)

I'm a big fan of fantasy and I find it interesting to add some silliness in...just to mix things up. Sounds like fun to me. It's good that the author didn't skimp on the writing quality. Thanks for your insightful review!

A farcical fantasy. Sounds like this will be an Incredible read. A very tall barbarian and a talking fish.... what else can you say but where is Lorax?
