The book cover of Fish Wielder by Jim Hardison tells all. Having 4 out of 4 reviews is great. However I want a greater weapon than a magical sword.

This was a weird one, but fun. I loved all the toss-aside references to popular fantasy books, from Lord of the Rings (the pudding of power, well really!), to Pratchett's Discworld, to Eragon, even the Belgariad. His ideas of geography were equally notable (not) with perilous tower, cliffs of doom, splashy sea (or words to that effect). Lovely and spoofy, to say nothing of the Warlordhorse! The end of a bit of a downer, but I guess the sequel is coming.

He definitely was great at getting those spoof references in throughout the book. It really helped to give an interesting comic bend to the storyline to be sure.

I'm not sure this book is for me, but you did a great job of explaining it.

have you ever read any Christopher Moore? I love that author and I think he is the king of this type of fantasy, so I'd like to know if or how anyone here would compare him to J.R.R.R. (jim) Hardison.

Awesome review! I'm currently reading a book by the same author and I'm liking it so far. Maybe when I'm finished I'll give this one a try as well.

I have not personally read any of his books so I unfortunately cannot give any comparison. Which one of his books would you recommend?

Oh, he's the man. Most people love his popular one "A Dirty Job," but for me, the best ones are his version of King Leer written from the court jester's perspective, "Fool: A Novel," and his incredible vampire series, starting with book one: "Bloodsucking Fiends." It's set in San Francisco, like a lot of his work, and has a large cast of weirdo characters. Just incredibly funny, well-written humor. He has some stranger stuff too, like "The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove" and "Island of the Sequined Love Nun." You get the idea.
