I have not personally read any of his books so I unfortunately cannot give any comparison. Oh, he's the man. Most people love his popular one "A Dirty Job," but for me, the best ones are his version of King Leer written from the court jester's perspective, "Fool: A Novel," and his incredible vampire series, starting with book one: "Bloodsucking Fiends." It's set in San Francisco, like a lot of his work, and has a large cast of weirdo characters. Just incredibly funny, well-written humor. He has some stranger stuff too, like "The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove" and "Island of the Sequined Love Nun." You get the idea.
