Your comment about the characters having similar names made me laugh. I can totally relate to it. Maybe it was the author's nod to Tolkien's lord of the rings where a family had similar names - Eomer, Eowyn, etc.

Thank you for stopping by my review.

This definitely seems like a great fantasy book for people who enjoy reading this genre. I love the cover too. It looks so mystical!

Great Review! ?

800+ pages is brutal! I can barely keep up with half those pages. I guess Sci-Fi is a unique niche that tends to create its own rules which I'd rather watch than read, I mean those complex environments and characters. Well done for your well written review.
@kislany,
Not that am lazy and all but I agree with Alicnim. 800+ pages is a tough read, I normally prefer watching Sci-Fi than reading. I fail to grasp the complex environments and scenery when reading. Nice review though.

Wow this is a nice review. This will probably want to make me read the book a lot more. It probably increased my interest by about 20%. So now 80% of me wants to read the book.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

@Izesicle your comment made me smile. You might just be right about the author's inspiration for the names.

@Christina Rose It took me a short while to get used to the many names and the fact that almost all characters were guys, but once I got into the flow, I forgot all about it and just enjoyed the book.

@Amagine you're right, I love the cover as well. Kudos to the cover designer!

@juliusotinyo I get you, really. If I didn't enjoy reading books as much as I do, I'd have probably stayed away from this one. But Once you've read Robert Jordan's monster (in number of pages) books (I think I only have one more left to catch up to) and other similar fantasy author's books that are well over 1000 pages long, 800 really doesn't seem (to me) all that bad :)

This one sounds like an interesting combination-coming of age story for Tercyn and an ensemble cast of characters collectively undergoing the hero's journey. Too bad, though, about the lack of strong female characters. Thanks for the review.

Those many names ending with letter C are surely confusing. I wonder how you read through the book. You have done a very good review of it.

Hmmm. I'm not sure whether I want to read this or not. It sounds like a great fantasy story, but there are some things about the book that would probably lose me. The 800+ pages is the main problem. It is really tough to keep the reader interested when the story runs that long. It sounds like there are barely any female characters, and they are not well developed. That would also lose my interest. 800+ pages of four monks does not sound interesting at all.

Interesting storyline. Too bad there's no female power. I guess I'll be reading the book, though not with as much enthusiasm. Thanks for your great review.

I struggle with fantasy at the best of times as I can never keep up with all the strange names and places, so a book this length would totally lose me! I do like the fact that it contains a deeper meaning in addition to the fantasy story-line.

Interesting plot and interesting point of view. I really appreciate the part where you point out the problematic treatment of female characters. Many books struggle with that issue...
