[Following is a volunteer review of "The Elf Brief" by Jordan David.]
[rbc=4]id139104-125[/rbc]The Elf Brief by Jordan David is a book that brings back all the wonderment of Christmases ago.  Noel Night was just another elf working his job in the Reference Department. One day, Noel is summoned to attend the daily briefing with the department heads and Santa Christo or Santa Claus.  As anyone who is summoned before a famous person, Noel is confused and keeps guessing as to why he was called upon.  Little does he know, Santa Christo has huge plans for the astonished elf.  Santa's time is almost up and their is a new Santa candidate that has been chosen.  Santa wants Noel to accompany the FCD, first contact department, elves to talk with the new candidate to offer him the job. Noel is highly honored and a little nervous, he will be leaving the North Pole for the first time since becoming an elf.  Noel and two FCD elves travel to Austalia to speak with Sam Locke, the Santa candidate.  As Sam accepts the role of Santa, Noel finds himself as the assistant to the new Santa. Noel and the new Santa, Santa Nicolas, are going to make their first present run together. First, both of them need to go through training and Noel needs to dodge the ever persistent and Gestapo like leader of the FCD, Mistletoe Green.  As Christmas Eve approaches, Noel and Santa Nicolas must be ready for everything.

The Elf Brief follows as Noel Night and the new Santa train for their first Christmas Eve trip. Noel has to learn to navigate the FCD elves but still keep his head about him. Will he be able to do just that without being dismissed from the North Pole?

It was so much fun reading this book.  From the way the elves work to the department's to Santa, everything was so well thought out.  I was very hard pressed to find something I did not like about this book. There were some grammatical errors, wrong uses of some words, and spelling issues, but it did not take away from the enjoyment of this book.  I thought that the part where Santa and Noel were training with the sleigh was a bit longwinded. I could have done with a lot less content of that subject.

I truly enjoyed this book. I was a little apprehensive at first because of the basis of this book. It is hard for Santa themed books not to be childish, but this book was an exception.  My favorite part of this book is how the first Santa you meet wrangled Noel into doing this job. Santa knows that Noel will be eager to do his job but totally out of his depths.  You can almost imagine the inner dialogue with that Santa during this time. I found it fun and entertaining. I absolutely love that the author actually goes through the departments. Also that there are a couple of the old Santa's hanging around just adds more depth to this book. I like how there is still mystery surrounding Santa, like how time slows around him and no one can figure that out.

I will easily rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars.  An unbelievably good read and so entertaining.  To have a book about a most treasured past time and make it more realistic. I cannot wait to read more from this series and author!
