Review by ms1864 -- The Elf Brief by Jordan David
The Elf Brief is the story of a Elf named Noel Night. Noel , along with many other elf, works in the North Pole along with Santa making toys for children around the world all year round. There is a change about to take place in the management as its time for a new Santa to take over. Noel, being a smart elf, is chosen by the current Santa (Christo) to document the transition of the new Santa (Nicholas) and to help him begin his reign. While helping Santa Nicholas through his 'firsts' at the north pole, Noel goes through many things for the first time himself. The elves, as described in the novel, are very organised and disciplined.
I enjoyed the novel very much. The book is well written. Even though it was expected to be a magical story, it had a practical feel to it. The explanations are described so well that it is easy for the reader to imagine that, had Santa and his elves actually existed, what a big empire they might have been running in this century. There is a lot of thought put into the details which makes the story sound almost logical as it progresses.
The novel was fun to read and it had a good flow. If I had to pick one thing to question it would be the lack of magic in this magical world. The story, at times, felt more reasonable than magical. Though having said that, it did seem like that might have been the intention of the author. The book holds up to the Christmas feel even without much magic.
The story is different from most Christmas stories, which in my opinion is what makes it a good read. The way the novel ends makes me want to get my hands on the second book of this series as soon as I can. The story transported me to December right in the middle of the year. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Christmas stories. It is also a good book for children.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Readers would enjoy the story and it would definitely leave them satisfied. The book is worth reading more than once, which I just might when December comes.
