You are right, this book is not one that grabs you from the start, however after reading your review, I think that I will give it a try. You made the book come alive with your narrative of the character, plot, and setting in this story. The mystery and suspense that you mentioned is enough to spark an interest and I will have to find out if it is as good as your detailed review.

Thanks for the review. It was nice to know that I wasn't the only one who needed a bit of warming up to enjoy this story. The plot sounds interesting, but right now, I'm not up for reading a long novel which takes time to build up the plot.

Thanks for the review, it really helped! I admit the premise is not anything new, but I am hoping that the plot twists you mentioned would make the read worthwhile. I haven't read many sci fi books where the characters are explored in depth in addtion to 'saving the world' or whatever plot they present. Glad that Herai takes that part into consideration. I will surely give this a read.
