A blend of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, sounds like my kind of book. Thanks for a concise review.

I read the sample and the book has a very good otherworldly feel of mystery and a promise of adventure and fun, that and coupled with your wonderful review, to my bookshelf it goes!
Thank you, CataclysmicKnight.

Great review. I'm just imagining a mage school student without magic. Sounds complicated.

Damos wrote:I personally don't like the com ination of fantasy, sex and violence. That's why I haven't read Game of thrones.
Not only have I not read Game of Thrones, I don't watch it on television, either. However, the review says that most of the violence and sex is alluded to, not described in graphic detail. I know bad things happen in the world, I don't need to see the events in every detail. And I wouldn't want to.

This book starts out as quite a good read. I felt it was a bit Lord of the Rings but enjoyable none the less. Characters were a bit young for me performing the violent acts and old men looking for sexual favours from children. Felt uncomfortable for me.

I can definitely see the Harry Potter influences, but I do agree that ten to fifteen is a little young for the amount of violence that they are seeing. I like that the students choose their names once they show their talents as a mage. I like that the story centers around a school with children learning what their magical abilities are. This part also gives me a Hogwarts vibe, but I like that the main character has problems of his own making him more believable.

The review is quite detailed, I enjoyed every bit of the piece. Unfortunately, I hardly get drawn to books in this genre, especially, ones with graphic violence and themes of magic. So, the possibility of reading this one is highly unlikely.
