The book ‘Time for PSyQ’ by the author Marti Ward is a science fiction story about a girl with a great memory.
The story revolves around the prodigy Airlie, who had her 11th birthday. She came down the stairs with excitement to open her birthday present from her family. Her eyes were fixated on a box wrapped in birthday paper and tied with a pink ribbon. It had a hole punched in the top. The box has a kitten inside, which has black claws, two golden orbs, and a charcoal nose. The kitten’s name was Sooty. She also got other presents, like a new Brain-Computer Interface Kit, but her whole attention was on Sooty. Sooty would hide in all sorts of places and keep track of who went where. Sooty’s favorite spot was the window ledge in the sun, and it depended on the time of the day. Sooty waits on the front ledge, leaping off and racing to the door to greet her after school. Their relationship was really sweet and cute.
There was only one incident at Airlies School. Airlie and her friends Yan and Lilly had just gotten back to their homeroom, where she found that her pencil case, which had shiny black cat stickers on it, was missing. Her friend Lily is also missing, as is her ruler. Many of her classmates have their belongings missing. Her teacher, Mr. Rodgers, made everyone take everything out of their bags and put it on the desk so that he could see they didn’t have anything with anyone else’s name on it. He eventually managed the situation with the borrowing of pens, pencils, and other things from the students inside the class. He ended with a short math lesson. He promised them that he would follow up on the situation with the principal.
After school, Ailie told her parents about her theft incident while trying not to sob. They assured her that they would buy her the same pencil case and other stuff she stole. But her mind was not ready to let go of her beloved pencil case. Sooty was sitting on her lap while caressing her, and she remembered the events of the day. She recalled that she saw someone come out of her homeroom during break time. One event led to another, which resulted in the capture of the thief from her brother Peter's homeroom.
Her dad has an eidetic memory that allows him to see and describe things in detail, even though he's only glimpsed them for a fraction of a second. What Airlie was doing seemed to be different. It wasn’t just a photographic memory of a scene or a page. She could adjust her perspective to see things better from a different point of view. It is known as reconstruction. Her dad was a neuroscience professor, and her mom was a practicing psychologist. They try to explain to her what it is and how it works, but she is not so interested in it.
The book contains a series of events where Airlie uses her memories to help others around her. The one incident where a little puppy in her neighborhood got kidnapped, and many more. The book is written fabulously. Everything is great about this book. The author's storytelling style is good. The development of characters is done nicely. Editing is great. The story is unique and interesting. I don’t think the book has any flaws from my perspective. I recommend it to everyone. I gave this book five out of five stars.
