I've read a couple of them. I've enjoyed them. They are for the most part short books, and are full of action. Maybe a little too much time spent talking about Jean-Claude and how bad she wants him, but other than that I found them pretty entertaining and full of action to make them fun to read.

i agree on the Jean-Claude part. and for those who have read further into the series i think they spend to much time in the bedroom.

yeah, I agree that she does spend too much time going on and on about sex when there could be more action. I also just read a couple of books from her Merry Gentry series and that series seemed to be all about sex, with not too much else going on.

it's actually got to the point where I'm skipping those scenes and if anything important happened i figure it out myself.

Really annoying  but... There still good books :)

I read the first six or seven of those books, and I thought they were just vampire porn, with some werewolf thrown in there.

I have just re read the 1st book to the Anita Blake series GUILTY PLEASURE. I still love the book. Laurell Kaye Hamilton is a great author. so far I have only read half the series and starting over since it been awhile since I read any of them. I am not disappointed. As I read these book I can imagine the book as a movie and dont like putting the book down its like pausing a movie.

I enjoyed the first couple as well. Not a huge fan of the later ones for reasons the people above me already described.

I think part of the problem with the series can be traced back to an interview Hamilton did once where she mentioned she'd never quite gotten over killing one of the supporting characters in the first book. Because of that and the distress it caused her, she decided not to kill any similarly important characters in any of her following books. Of course, obviously not all books have to be as death happy as something like ASoIaF, but I think it does become a problem when a) your genre of choice is murder mystery thrillers and b) you're adding new characters with every book to the point where your main cast is a harem on its best days and a clown car on its worst.

I've read nearly all of them, but I hate to admit that I stopped reading around book 18? 19? I lose track there are so many. I loved the series, I love every single character, hero or villain and the plots were always very gripping...but...I started to lose interest when there were so many characters and so much going on that I felt the plotlines were weakening and it was about sex in most scenes (which i don't normally mind) or some tortured soul who needed saving and only Anita could manage it, usually with a massive orgy and listening to tragic stories. Again, I loved everything, but it became ..samey? is that a good word? :)

Anyway, I also did the exact same with the Meredith Gentry novels...btw I believed for a long time I was in love with Doyle and Frost (dreamy) but....by the last book that came out I was growing bored :/ I hope one day I will pick them up again and start afresh and feel differently, but she hasnt had anything that has called to me recently

I just bought the newest book in the series. I am obsessed with the Anita Blake books. Yes there is a lot of sexual scenes but I still love them. Some of the books lost a lot of the action for awhile but it has come back to full badass Anita recently. The only book I didn't really enjoy was Jason. It was basically one big sex book. But other than that I can't seem to put them down!

I look past the sex to the reasons and interaction between characters. While Anita seems a victim and warrior trapped in repeated storms of metaphysical and mundane threats, the truth is that she is a stone and sanctuary for those drawn to her. She holds true to God and battles for those who need help, no matter their being or situations.

I devoured the first several books and enjoyed them a lot. Of course, I was in my late teens/early twenties when I read them and was able to overlook a lot of the flaws, at least the first time around. I read up until Incubus Dreams when I had to stop because I couldn't remember what was going on and why she was acting like a dog in heat in the middle of her office.

When I went back to the beginning, I realized that the setup for each book was basically the same. As a necromancer, Anita started with tons of potential but then it delved into the same repetitive sex scenes. My favorite book, though, is Obsidian Butterfly. I loved the perspective on Edward. I also think it has the most beautiful title and cover. :)

Wow, I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought the later books had too much sex! I loved the series when I read the first few books, but found myself being less and less interested as the series continued, mostly because of the graphic, unnecessary sex and lack of actual plot! Glad I'm not the only one...

I loved Anita....until her power over sex showed up. It's just smut now :( I want to say I started struggling after Narcissus in Chains. I had friends convince me to keep going, but after a while, there was no plot! I think I finally stopped around sixty pages into Affliction. I should have stopped way before that though.
