Review of The Seventh Spark
Fantastic beasts and angelic heroes fight side by side in this book, The Seventh Spark by J.B Lion. It is an upcoming fantasy novel, but the author was kind enough to provide the first two chapters of the book for review.
The Knights of the Trinity are about to have a meeting. Armin, the Divine, is to preside over the day’s ceremony. As he welcomes each sibling to the meeting, there’s no doubt in his mind that the day will turn out to be interesting as usual. You see, this isn’t just your normal family meeting. This is a roll call of the Knights of the Everlasting Order, angels of the third realm of heaven, destined to be the protectors and guardians of the realms of men. The gathering is to vote for the safe passage of one of their own who recently died to the first realm and everlasting life.
Like all family meetings, however, they couldn't reach a consensus, and squabbles began. It was beginning to look like Armin couldn’t control his brethren, after all, until a blinding light and a booming voice welcomed a new presence into their midst. The only archangel who can wield the sword of God has arrived….
This is the first time I would only review two chapters of a book rather than the whole novel, and I have to say it is a different experience. As I came to the end of the second chapter, I found myself subconsciously trying to read on until I realised I had reached the end. Also, I need to point out that the link for the feedback survey at the end of the second chapter doesn’t work. Having said this, I loved the two chapters. The author’s writing style is captivating and very descriptive. The images are very colourful and contrasted wonderfully with the black-and-white animated pictures.
The characters are simply mesmerising. Each description is so detailed and striking that you can’t help but want to learn more about them. From Gaudfridus, the Conqueror to Stevyn, the Beast, they all have an air of magnificence, fearsome beauty and stealth about them. When the archangel showed up, I literally felt a shiver. Once again, I give it to the author for having such a way with words that pulls the reader into the plot and keep them hooked.
There's nothing about the chapters that I didn't like. I will gladly give it 5 out of 5 stars. I only spotted two errors in the prologue, but they did not affect my reading experience. I also noted only one minor profanity. It was mentioned in the book as blasphemy, given the context in which it was used. I wouldn’t recommend the book to very young readers, and perhaps sensitive ones too, because the images and description of the characters might be a bit too graphic. Mature lovers of the fantasy literary genre would simply adore this book. I know I did, and I can’t wait to read the main book.
