In Like a Lily Among the Thorns, Karen S.Bell has successfully created a book that one can pick up and immediately be invested in the story that it holds. It shows a person that, family is not only blood and can be those around you that you care for deeply. The attention to detail really helps a person visualize everything that is going on and therefore making it easier to follow the story line.

There is so much to love about this book. A variety of different cultures and settings, making it interesting all through out. And the different timelines, allow those who like a bit of history to enjoy it as well. Karen created a plethora of different point of views, so that you could get every ones opinions on certain matters as well as see where they are mentally. I loved that every characters backstory was handed out throughout the book instead of all at once, so that we could have a chance to think about what they went through and digest it to make understanding some of their actions easier.

I really appreciate the difference in social classes between the characters, showing every ones struggles, and through all that, proving that who you choose to surround yourself with and call family can be of all ethnicity’s, genders, social classes etc... The strength portrayed by all of the characters, showing that not only is it necessary, but it is possible to stick together as well as stay positive during hard times, like the ones experienced in the book. One of our main characters, Gabrielle Bernstein always tried to see the silver lining in any situation she was in and that definitely brought some reassurance and comfort to those around her. As well as the way she carried herself after the Countess stepped in and gave her a second chance at a family, in a sense. After the Countess took her under her wing Gabrielle was given a new breath of courage and everyone around her could see it, it is what led most of her potential love interests to her in the first place. So I think that we all can take away many useful life lessons from this book to apply to our day to day lives.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I have I have no reason to deduct a star because I have no ill feelings toward it. Upon finding no errors, I dare say that this book was exceptionally well-edited.

The story that lies on these pages forces us as humans to take a stand and help out in anyway we can to prevent things like global warming. I recommend this book to those who love a balance of magic and reality in their literature.
