Review of Midnight On Mars

[Following is a volunteer review of "Midnight On Mars" by Marie Montine.]
[I]Midnight on Mars [/I] by Mariah Montine is a novel on the amalgamation of two belief systems: new age and science. The story begins with Kari Keskiyo, a researcher for Esoteric Studies of North America (ESONA), who was blacklisted by International Collision of Space Expedition (ICSE) from the Colony list of astronauts to Mars. The reason being that she propounded a theory that was against cloning, based merely on her spiritual stance. Her ex-boyfriend Neil Blackwell, one of ICSE's astronaut and creator of the Clones (Hollows) on Mars was taken aback by her theory which he rated as unreasonable and contradictory to the project he was working on. Their different view points on the matter caused a rift in their relationship and inevitably their breakup, as Kari made Neil chose between his going ahead with the project and their relationship.
But, on the long-run Kari's theory turned out to be correct,Neil and his Colleagues finds a way to bring her on board on Mars where the real adventure begun. All is going well until they encountered challenges from a crazed old man, Caden Holmgren, who is obsessed about repopulating mars. He mobilized hollows to attack Neil and other members of the Colony. The question now is: Will Neil and Kari succeed on their mission, especially with this new threat on their very existence?
I like the way the author described the various locations in the novel, although fictional, it was easy to visualize and make the story become alive on my mind. Most books on the concept of space travel I have read in the past, usually presented this concept in a boring way that repelled me. Therefore I couldn't help but feel impressed at the great job the author did, in presenting this concept in a way that heightened my interest throughout. I also like the fact that certain themes and positive values were promoted in the story like: spirit of teamwork and cooperation, forgiveness, value of good family relationship and even promotion of sound scientific incentives and technicality.
Although, I came across some typographical errors while I was reading the book, detailed description of violent scenes which may agitate some readers and high usage of scientific terminologies or jargons which may pose a serious challenge of comprehension for non scientifically inclined readers, I still rate this book 4 out of 4 stars regardless.
I recommend this book to lovers of science fiction, readers fascinated by concept of space travel, orbital adventures and robotics. I do not recommend this book to impressionable readers, as there are some violent scenes in the novel. Religious fanatics will find this book a delight. Non science readers may want to pass on this book, because of the high usage of scientific terminologies all through the book.
