Are we alone in the universe? Or is there life out there? These questions about the possibility of life on other planets have fascinated people for years. In this enthralling sci-fi book, Legacy by Sean T. Smith, you might be able to find the answers to these age-old questions.

You could call them a motley crew, and you would not be mistaken. After all, an eclectic group of people comprising an anthropologist, an ex-Navy Seal, a director of a nuclear agency, a frat boy, an astrophysicist, an engineer, and a peculiar looking alien, hardly look like the last defence that the planet Earth has. Yet, that is what they are. This team of interesting looking characters are in a race against time to stop a mad man from obliterating the planet from existence. However, it appears Jessica Bustos and her friends have truly underestimated Nwarht’s capacity for evil. His vengeance has taken a long time to stew over, and he’s determined that nothing must stop him. So the real question is will stopping him change anything? Find out in this captivating book.

Fast-paced and enthralling, I love how the book hits the ground running. From the start right to the end, I was captivated. Characters are added gradually but deliberately, leaving no doubt of their importance in the whole plot. The author’s writing style is fluid and seamless, interjecting the right amount of humour and wit to endear the reader to the story. The descriptive narration fired up my imagination, allowing me to visualise each scene in bright, living colours.

I also love how the lead characters are introduced into the plot one after the other, then linked seamlessly at the end. Their stories are well developed, which makes them easy to identify with. Their witty dialogues also lend a hilarious air to an otherwise apocalyptic situation. Jessica’s character is sharp, unbelievably intelligent, but very naive. Bryce is the perpetual student and frat boy but surprisingly more intelligent than he looks. The antagonist, Nwarht, is as cold and dangerous as any other villain. However, because his type of malevolence had taken years to brew, I believe this makes him even eviler than most.

The only problem I had was with the ending. It was anti-climatic for me, given the build-up of the entire plot. It does hint at a sequel so that might explain the lacklustre finish.

Conclusively, I’ll rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. I had to take one off because of the disappointing ending. I could only spot two errors, so I must say it is professionally well edited. Even though it contains strong language, it has no erotic scenes. I believe teenagers and adult fans of the sci-fi/ fantasy genre would really enjoy this as much as I did.
