The book Strange Stories II: The Empty Earth by Roger Mannon is divided into two main stories. Each story depicts what could happen if the current climate issues are not addressed on time. We need to change and do something positive before the damage to mother earth is irreversible. The author mentioned devastating hurricanes and rising temperatures as signs of the planet heading down the path of destruction. We need to do our part to protect our planet. As life as we know it comes to an end, none of our characteristics like race, country, religion would matter anymore.

I liked the book because it makes us realize that we live in a world where humans are destroying the earth at an uncontrollable pace. The first story talks about the virus that contaminated the world. The accidental release of the virus from the tundra causes most of humankind to die with no known cure. The narrator touches on how we need other humans not to feel lonely. The second story talks about how the narrator’s father prepares his son to deal with the destruction of the earth. There are lessons on how to live off the grid and survive. We may all need these life skills if we don’t do something about the rapid deterioration of the earth’s resources.

There was nothing I did not like about the book. The book is more of a warning that needs to be taken seriously. We need to reduce our carbon footprint before life on earth is destroyed.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I felt Roger Mannon is doing his part to bring awareness to the destruction caused by our selfish lifestyles. He talks about events that may occur if we don’t do something about them right now. We are already starting to see the beginning signs of our planet being destroyed rapidly. We need to step up and do our part to give our next generation a healthy chance at life. We owe that to our kids. The narrator mentions how the sky is filled with ash and how water needs to be purified before it can be used for drinking. The smoke and ash in the air felt real to me because I experienced it with all the wildfires here in California.

I recommend this book for a mature audience since there are swear words. This book is well edited, and there were no errors.
