We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantastic non-fiction novel. Voulhire is a kingdom set in a fictional world where magic rules the day and the monarchy’s politics shapes the lives of ordinary people. The King of Voulhire suspects his sons are eyeing his throne. He sends the princes to the Lands of the Princes and pits them against each other. If the princes are busy fighting among themselves, they will not come after his throne. But fate has more in store for the King and his kingdom than ambitious sons. Voulhire faces assassins, chaos, a murderous monster, treacherous adversaries, death, and suffering. Unexpectedly, the fate of this glorious kingdom rests in the hands of a young man named Galen Bary. Galen hails from the Lands of the Princes, a land ravaged by the princes’ war against each other. Luckily, Galen inherits a forge from his distant uncle. Ready to make a better life, Galen moves to Voulhire to work at the forge. He has no idea what fate has in store for him.

The best part of the book is the inclusion of magic and fantasy creatures. Several characters have supernatural capabilities. As a result, there are many magical scenes with captivating action and adventure. The author’s storytelling skills enhance the magical elements. Tysz’s creativity and whimsy shine through in the design of his fantasy world. Another positive element is character development. I especially love Galen because of his personality and adventures.

The beginning of the story is too lackluster for me. There is a lot of background information that slows the momentum. In a nutshell, I think the beginning of the book has little plot development. The adventure, action, and magical scenes are in the middle and end of the book. After the first chapters, the story picks up and sets the stage for the next book. I also think there is room for improvement in the editing because I came across two errors.

I rate We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz 3 out of 4 stars. The book has a creative and unique storyline. The author creates a fantastic world full of magic and adventure. The only downside to the book is the slow beginning. Once readers get through the beginning, they are in for a thrilling read.

I recommend the book to people who like fantasy and adventure novels. The book introduces the series and lays the ground for the next book. The book has some vulgar words. Therefore, the ideal audience is young adults over sixteen and adults.
