Set in the near future, Force Fields From Beyond by Naomi Semeniuk is intriguing and engaging. Unmarked helicopters and strange black-hooded figures appear in the world, leaving the masses scared and confused. Various paranormal events such as the appearance of black triangles, sudden malfunctioning of computers and instruments of war, and disappearance of animals occur. Unfortunately, the government and the media, due to their corrupt attitudes, decide to hide the truth of these events from the masses, claiming that the recent happenings are a result of some form of mass hallucinations.

We meet Stargaze, who is an enthusiast of extraterrestrial happenings. She tries to explain these events to her friends who refuse to believe reality. We also meet Larissa, who is almost the opposite of Stargaze. Stargaze is chosen as one of the fifty people who are to uncover more about these events. The masses believe that rapture is happening due to the sudden death of evil people worldwide and the healing of the innocent. Inhumane treatment of animals stop as animals willingly follow the black triangles, and people are forced to become vegetarians.

Secrets are uncovered, and the impossible becomes possible. Who are the chosen? What is the government’s intention in hiding the truth about these events? Is this truly the end of the world? Who are the innocent ones – the churches, the doctors or the media? What is the mission of the Andromedans? There is more to discover in this fantastic science fiction.

This book contained a few positive aspects. It discusses the importance of animal liberty and freedom. It teaches that animals should be adequately catered for as they also have feelings. The book takes us to an era where wars and diseases are absent. We learn that actions have consequences that we cannot escape. Also, the book talks about supernatural abilities and paranormal events that boost a reader’s imaginative skills. The book also captures a world devoid of pornography and terrorism.

However, it also contained negative aspects. I found a host of errors in this book. This shows that the book was not properly edited. The author made use of complex sentences without proper punctuations. This would make it difficult for a reader to understand the sentences used in the book. I found it challenging to grasp the meaning of some words used in the book. I also did not appreciate the extensive length of the book, especially as the author repeated a lot of sentences and conversations.

I rate this book three out of four stars. I did not rate it higher because I believe it needs proper editing. I did not rate it lower because, even though the author did not express his thoughts properly, the storyline and concept of the book were fascinating. I recommend this book to lovers of science fiction and the paranormal. However, anyone reading this book will require a lot of patience. Anyone with an interest in fiction will also enjoy this book.

There are some interesting elements in this novel with current problems of humanity addressed through a contact with aliens. I hope the author does more editing to polish the book. Thank you for your great review!

This book seems to follow a naïve perspective of what world peace would look like. It seems funny but contrite to me as I read this review and would love to give it a try mostly for the humor encased within this unrealistic ideal. While I might sound senile, brutal or even fiendish, I do not believe an extraterrestrial lifeform has any interest in making us vegetarian or even healing the sick. However, I will give this book a shot in hopes of gaining a new perspective from it. Hopefully the "host of errors" do not stand as another limiting factor to me enjoying the book.
