This is a remarkably well-told story set in an ancient time when magic was practiced as science and the balance of a kingdom was a game for kings and lords. We follow the journeys of different key characters scattered throughout the world as their unfolding circumstances eventually overlap their destinies, providing ample foreshadowing as this is the first of an on-going four-part series.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies begins the series by introducing us to a myriad of colorful and relatable characters as we follow the story of a humble, young man thrust into a new life of wealth and adventure as he undertakes his uncle's forge with the help of a cheeky companion to show him the way. His adventures provide light, relatable and entertaining breaks from the contrast of the king's heavy burdens which are soon to be felt by the entire kingdom as the king and lords deal with the looming threat of a great and powerful mage as well as a mysterious rebel defiance.
The unfolding stories evoke suspense and a deep fondness for the characters established which build up excitement for their future roles in the proceeding books by Matthew Tysz.

A story made for TV yet written so descriptively vivid that one easily gets lost in the stories laid into the cobblestones of Voulhire without the need for external visuals. The developing storyline quickly envelops the reader into the politics of this vast fictional world which soon becomes an emotional investment in the characters well being. What I most enjoyed was how Tysz analyzed our world through the eyes of an innocent being from another universe in the most profound way; it truly was a joy to read. The characters live on as we the readers excitedly reach for the next installment to discover their fates.

I haven’t a single bad thing to say about this captivating piece of work as it was so amazingly well written. Tysz is a true storyteller with a talent for writing that is so descriptive and enthralling that it sets up camp in your imagination and doesn’t leave until you’ve reached the tale’s end and beyond.

It is for the reasons stated above that We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies gets a rating of 4 out of 4 stars from me. The writing is incredible, the characters are relatable and interesting to follow, and the world of Voulhire that Tysz has created offers an appealing familiarity that is rife with potential future excitement for our beloved characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a new fantasy world set in magical times to escape into. A great read that leaves you wanting more and will quickly ease a bookworm's thirst for a new wonderworld to sink their teeth into and get lost. Original yet familiar, its charming storylines offer a pleasant escape into a mystical reality for anyone to enjoy.
