We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End is the third book in the We are Voulhire science fiction series written by Matthew Tysz. It is highly recommended to read the first two books to better understand the story, where the reader gets to know the incredible kingdom of Voulhire and how the events are turning this amazing kingdom into despair. After the terrifying incident that happened in Virko, with no response from the new eiodi, Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius are traveling to Soulhire, the capital of the kingdom, in an attempt to meet the king and telling him about the situation in Virko. Fortunately, and thanks to Rowan’s family, the trio had the opportunity to meet him in a trial that would change the kingdom completely. College students wanted the kingdom to give humanitarian help to the Lands of The Princes and bring refugees to Voulhire. Many see this as a great initiative that could help poor people have a new life; however, it was also dangerous due to the powerful Emperor of Lullabies possible interpretation of it as a threat. Would that decision bring more prosperity to the kingdom or, on the contrary, would it end up destroying it?

Meanwhile, the rebel group Riva Rohavi was attacking more and more intensely, to the point of assaulting people who were traveling even near the capital. On top of that, Meldorath was more determined than ever to achieve his plans. He would do anything for it, even replacing the eiodi to get closer to the kingdom and fight everyone who gets in his way.

Like the former books, We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End is written from different points of view, but this time, the perspectives of Rowan and Demetrius are in first person and even the last was included in Galen’s perspective. The rest of the points of view are in third person. That can be confusing for some readers, but eventually, it gets easier to understand.

This story was more intense compared to the former books, and far more engaging. In this book, we get to know more about Galen and his past. We discover a darker side of him, one of high aggressiveness when needed, contrary to the naivety and purity he always showed. However, that does not affect his loyalty and courage, making him the perfect hero and the best character in this story. Also, we discover more about Rowan and his family, one of the most prominent doctors in Voulhire.

Besides Galen, my favorite character in this story was Meldorath. He is the kind of villain that steals the limelight because he is not only very powerful (to the point to be a threat to even the Emperor of Lullabies) but also very wise. He does not act imprudently. He knows what to do to get things done and uses everything for his benefit. Another character to mention is Sophie Shore, a student who stood in advocacy for foreign refugees of the Lands of the Princes and believed Voulhire had a moral obligation to help them. She was a very decisive woman, who had no fear of fighting for her ideas.

My favorite part of this book was the intensity of the plot. It is heavy and unexpected, and you will find a lot of surprises along the way, to the point that when it ends you will feel incomplete, like you need to read the next book immediately. The character development was awesome, and the story showed the different sides of every single character. Also, the games of power were very interesting and the way the tables turned was amazing. I can say that there was nothing that I disliked about this book, it was perfect.

The novel had some profanities and violent scenes. Also, demons and magic were a part of the story, so sensitive people about these topics should read carefully, and the book is definitely not for children. The religion was fictional, so readers with different beliefs can enjoy the book equally.

I rate We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End 4 out of 4 stars. The plot was engaging, with a lot of twists and turns that keep the reader eager to know what is going to happen next. The characters were richly developed, and their evolution was incredible. Also, the story was very original, giving a great experience with the perspective of the universe the author created. This book is perfect for readers that enjoy a fantasy and science fiction book, with different points of view, political affairs, and intense battles. The novel is not recommended for people who do not feel comfortable with the style of narrative and do not like fantasy.
