What is the best vampire book/series you've read lately?

Post by KMRandall »

I recently started reading the Chicagoland Vampires and got really into it. The characters are really well-developed and author Chloe Neill inserts plenty of humor, plus a hot buildup in the romance department. Lately, I'm annoyed by the abundance of vampire novels since many authors seem to be riding on the coattails of Twilight, but this series is solid -- and has the flavor of the Southern Vampire Mysteries (True Blood on TV).

The last and only Vampire book series I have read is the Twilight Saga and before I read that I wasn't really into Vampire books but my Friend kept telling me that I need to read them and I would tell her that it didn't sound like something I could get into but she would still keep telling me I should read them so I gave In and borrowed them from her and I loved them! I have probably read them at least 5 times. I am looking forward to reading other vampire books/series also.

I've read a lot of good vampire stories, it'd be hard to pick a favourite...

The one that stands out the most for me would probably be the Cat and Bones series by Jeaniene Frost - it's like Blade, but female main character and chalk full of lust... if you like vampires meets romance, but still badass scary vampires, i'd recommend this series

I recently finish the House of Night series (or what's been released to date). I believe it's intended for a younger audience,but I really like the story line.

I've read some vampire books and still my number one is 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker. THIS is the image of a real vampire - cruel, driven by his passions, always thirsty for blood. Not some shiny, sparkling creatures invented by Stephenie Meyer (sorry to every 'Twilight' fan, but I just hate this book :( ). Also, Anne Rice's vampire books are of high quality in my opinion. ;)

@jool
I agree, the first chapter of Dracula is probably the scariest writing I have read.

i seem to be reading soooooo many vampire series at the moment. i think twilight started it all (silently cursing) but my faves would have to be the mortal instruments (they have vampires in them) and vampire academy, i cant think of anymore that are my favourites but the drake chronicles are up there. i suggest any girl who is obsessed with vampires read it.

I cannot stop reading Vampire Academy. I'm forever drawn to Dimitri and Rose's love. It will always be one of my favourites :oops:

Admittedly, Twilight is still one of my favourites. I'm more attracted to Emmett Cullen though :lol:

I have read The Vampire Diaries which is great and I would have to say The Twilight Series. I hope to read more vampire books in the future but these are my favorites right now.

Lately? None. But one that I've always liked is Stepnen King's "Salem's Lot."

I really enjoy The Historian. Besides great characters and plot, the author included a lot of area history so I felt like I learned a lot. I liked it so much that I bought a signed first edition for my personal library as I know I will want to read it again at some point... :wink:

I recently got caught up on the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. These were definitely a fun read with lots of action and romance and what I especially enjoyed was the character development. They were very complex and flawed (perhaps too much sometimes) but had redeeming qualities that made me love them. I have also heard good things about The Historian so that's on my to read list.
