Project Tau, by Jude Austin, ISBN 978-1386057062, is 217 pages, 15 chapters long. The story takes place in a science-fictional world, alternately on the planets of Basarr and Trandellia.
Gen Tech is a research and experimental facility on Basarr, selling it's humanoid "projects" to the military. Today, there is a new project, Kata. He is to be paired with the current project Tau. A murder closely following Kata's arrival arouses suspicion for one of the scientists, Dr. Renfield. What previous facility did project Kata come from? What intelligent abilities did they give him and why? And when Renfield's suspicions
heighten, will he risk his career and even his life to probe to the bottom? What will his choice bring to projects Tau and Kata?
Jude Austin piques the reader's interest in the opening paragraphs, giving vital information through realistic character dialogue. The plot remains stable throughout, holding the reader's interest without dull sentences to skip over. The story wraps up neatly in the end, while still leaving an opening for continuation in a future sequel.
As an avid sci-fi reader and also an incredibly picky reader at times, I have no criticisms for the story. The plot is realistic, the characters life-like, and all events mesh together thoroughly so that the reader is not left hanging. Project Tau is definitely a 4 out of 4.
Religious readers or parents should be aware of frequent use of strong language and some sexual references.
"The project has escaped".
