The Kings' Assassin by Ed Cannon is a fantasy fiction. It takes us to Illicia, a city unlike any city we can think of. The writer has managed to widen our imagination with this creative piece of writing.
On receiving an urgent telepathic message from his father, Sillik the youngest prince of Illicia is returning back to his city after a long time. The journey back home was rather an unpleasant one as he had to take down assassins who were sent specifically to kill him. The harsh conditions of the geographical terrain made things tougher. As he reached his city, he learnt about the death of his dad and brothers and that was when the entire situation becomes clear to him.
He has to catch the killer before its too late and also he has to save his city from the grasp of the dark forces who are hungry to take over the throne of the city.
Will Sillik be able to take charge of the situation?
Let me start by appreciating the writer's ability to describe every single element in an elaborate manner. In the initial chapters when Sillik reaches the city for the first time, the writer's description of the way in which the doors of the city opened and closed is worth mentioning and these small descriptions just adds life to the story. This is my favourite part of the book. For a fantasy tale to work the writer's ability to create a different world and characters which are able to fit into that world is the most important thing and the writer has executed that perfectly.
There are a lot of twists throughout the story. Given the amount of treachery, it becomes difficult for us to have trust on anyone with helping Sillik till the end. The writer unfolds only the right amount of information at any point. This intensifies the plot even more because as one mystery is solved, another mystery arises and as a reader I was thrilled by it.
Sillik's character is well created and his power and special abilities are sure to attract any reader. The other characters of the story are also well utilised as we see that every character has an important role in the development of the plot. Be it the dark forces or the Seven Gods of Law every aspect surrounding the entire city is well developed for the readers to get a clear understanding about them. I'll definitely rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book was flawless and I didn't find anything that I could dislike in it.
I didn't find any error in the book. The narration is pretty smooth and the plot is easily understandable. I'll suggest this book to fans of fantasy stories and to mature teenagers. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did.
